Engine

Ford replaced the 7.3 IDI engine with the 7.3 Powerstroke in 1994. The new diesel V-8 produced 210 horsepower at 3,000 rpm and 425 pounds-feet of torque at 2,000 RPM. With a cast iron block and cylinder heads, the overhead valve Powerstroke also had hydraulic lifters.

The 7.3 Powerstroke wasn’t immune to ailments, however, requiring replacement 7.3 Powerstroke diesel parts. For example, the engine’s valve springs did not have high seat pressure. Because of this, valve float would occur at high RPMs, leading to broken or bent pushrods. Additionally, the engine utilized a high-pressure oil pump. Pressurized up to 3,000 psi, the smallest oil leak from a failed O-ring or the rear drain plug could cause further problems, such as oil in the engine valley.
