Sensors
The 5.9-liter Cummins 12V 6BT inline-six engine generally doesn’t have too many issues, even with its wiring and sensors. However, the throttle position sensor is prone to failure.
Responsible for determining how far the accelerator pedal is pressed, the 5.9 Cummins TPS sensor provides information to the mass airflow sensor. The MAF then manages the amount of airflow coming through the throttle body.
The TPS can become clogged due to dirt, dust, and other contaminants. If the TPS is failing, the MAF sensor will receive bad readings, and the incorrect amount of air is delivered to the engine’s cylinders, affecting air to fuel ratios and performance.
Make sure your sensors and wiring are in good working order. Find the right TPS, 5.9 Cummins IAT sensor, and more at ProSource Diesel.
