Sensors
While this generation of Ford’s Powerstroke is frequently referred to as one of the best diesel engines, the 7.3 sensors face some issues.
Responsible for recognizing which cylinder is at top dead center, the camshaft position sensor helps the powertrain control module adjust fuel injection timing. However, the 7.3 cam sensor can shut the engine off during operation or prevent it from starting, leaving you stranded on the side of the road.
Another common problem for the 1999.5-2003 Powerstroke engine is the injector control pressure sensor. Located toward the front of the driver’s-side cylinder head, the 7.3 ICP sensor sends the oil rail pressure to the PCM so that it can maintain proper oil pressure. A faulty ICP sensor can lead to a rough idle or stalling.
With a wide array of parts, ProSource Diesel can help you replace 7.3 Powerstroke sensors and wiring.
