With 210-275 horsepower, Ford’s 7.3-liter Powerstroke V-8 featured a single wastegated Garrett GTP38 turbocharger. While this generation of the Powerstroke is regarded as one of the most reliable diesel engines produced, it still had some issues with its 7.3 turbo parts.

A potential issue, however, can be a faulty exhaust back-pressure valve. Mounted on the turbocharger’s outlet, the Y-shaped valve is controlled by an actuator that is also attached to the turbo. The system reduces the amount of time it takes for the engine to reach operating temperature. However, the EBPV can stick open in cold temperatures or leak oil. Getting a 7.3 turbo pedestal EBPV delete can help increase performance and lower exhaust gas temperatures.
