The 6.6-liter Duramax LB7 V-8 turbo-diesel features a cast aluminum head and a cast iron block and produces between 235 and 300 horsepower and 500 to 520 pounds-feet of torque. Though overall fairly reliable, owners may face some problems with this engine and need LB7 Duramax parts.

A common issue is head gasket failure, though this typically doesn’t occur until mileage has hit more than 100,000. With a layered steel head gasket and a small fan and radiator, overheating can lead to the head gasket failing and requiring an LB7 head gasket kit. The gasket may leak internally, allowing coolant to enter the engine’s cylinders, or externally, with coolant escaping the engine.
