2003-EARLY 2004 DODGE RAM 5.9L CUMMINS PARTS

In 2003, Cummins introduced the 5.9L ISB Cummins diesel engine. In some ways, it was the same as the 1998.5 to 2002 Cummins engine but in many ways, it was much different. For example, along with all Dodge heavy-duty trucks of 2003 , the 5.9L ISB engine moved to completely electronic controls rather than just a few.

The electronically controlled common-rail fuel system made by Bosch came with a reliable CP3 high-pressure fuel pump and multi-event, solenoid-actuated fuel injectors. The addition of these features had the 5.9L Cummins running cleaner, quieter and more powerful than any other Cummins engine before it.

The 5.9 Cummins engine is an impressive powerhouse putting out 305 horsepower and 555 lb-ft of torque. One of the interesting differences with the 5.9 ISB is that unlike the PowerStroke 6.0L and Duramax LLY at that time, the 5.9 Cummins managed to meet new emissions guidelines without using exhaust gas circulation. To meet those new emission standards, Cummins relied on altering engine programming, injector spray angle, piston design and turbo selection.
