Charging Starting

Ford’s 2003-2007 6.0 Powerstroke replaced the notable 7.3. However, along with several other problematic areas, the turbo-diesel V-8 wasn’t free of electrical gremlins. One involves the fuel injection control module (FICM). Located on the driver’s-side valve cover, the 6.0 FICM is prone to overheating and failure due to excessive vibrations and engine heat. The module, which puts out at least 47 volts, can get damaged capacitors due to excess voltage drawn during cold starts.

Another common issue for this generation of the engine is wire chafing, as some wires under the hood rub against brackets and other areas. Ford relocated the 6.0’s wiring harnesses to try to remedy the chafing issue at the end of the 2003 model year.
