Glow Plugs

Unlike its predecessor, the 7.3, this generation of Ford’s Powerstroke was more prone to problems on the road. One of the issues that owners can face is faulty 6.0 Powerstroke glow plugs. With a heat-generating electrode that glows when activated, glow plugs essentially warm up the engine’s cylinders prior to fuel ignition.

Symptoms of failing glow plugs include engine misfires, hard starts or no start, black or white smoke, and a rough idle or hesitation. For earlier models, the 6.0 glow plugs are longer, making them incompatible with later engines due to a different piston design. Using incorrect glow plugs can result in engine damage.
