Injectors

The 6.0 Powerstroke fuel injectors are not free of issues for this generation of Ford’s turbo-diesel engine. The 6.0 Powerstroke uses hydraulically actuated electronically controlled unit injectors, which are sensitive to poor quality oil and fuel, and the parts inside the injectors can wear and fail to properly feed fuel into the cylinders.

As the injector pressure is managed by oil flow, the 6.0 Ford injectors can be affected by inadequate oil pressure, causing premature failure of the injectors, among other parts. Routine oil changes can help prevent any injector issues.

Another one of the major causes of injector malfunction is related to the oil system. Stiction, short for static friction, occurs when either of the two spool valves within an injector wears out or doesn’t drain properly, causing the valve to stop opening and closing quick enough to dispense the right amount of fuel. Stiction is most apparent when the engine is idling and is still cold and can be difficult to diagnose.

ProSource Diesel has a great selection of remanufactured and Motorcraft fuel injectors to help your Powerstroke perform its best.
