Fuel System

Ram introduced three versions of the 6.7-liter Cummins inline-six for its 2500 and 3500 trucks for 2013. Producing up to 370 horsepower and 850 pounds-feet of torque (up to 400 horsepower and 1,000 pounds-feet on high output versions), the engine had better fuel economy than its predecessor. However, the Cummins 6.7 fuel system wasn’t entirely problem-free.

The engine utilizes a Bosch CP3 high-pressure common-rail fuel injection system. Though more efficient than other systems, it is not tolerant of contaminated fuel. Fuel debris causes the Cummins 6.7 injectors to stick in the “on” position, wearing out prematurely and requiring replacement. In 2019, Cummins revised the fuel injector design and swapped in a Bosch CP4, which increased maximum injection pressure from 26,000 to 29,000 psi.
