Engine

The replacement for the troublesome 6.0, Ford’s 6.4-liter Powerstroke engine produced 350 horsepower and 650 pounds-feet of torque. While its design resolved many of its predecessor’s issues, it wasn’t immune to problems.

It’s common for the 6.4 EGR cooler, which helps lower exhaust gas temperature, to fail due to coolant breaking down and clogging the system. Aftermarket EGR coolers offer better reliability and improved coolant flow. Coolant breakdown can also cause the passages in the engine oil cooler to clog and increase engine oil temperatures. As the oil cooler cannot be cleaned, it must be replaced.
